Word Processing Directions - Formatting for Your Autobiography

  1. Logon to computer.

  2. Go to Start, Programs, Microsoft Word.

  3. Center your text by clicking on the center icon in the tool bar.

  4. Change the size of your text by clicking on Format, Font, then choose size 24 on the right side of that window.

  5. On the left side of that same window, choose the ARIAL type of font or another one of your choosing. Make sure that it is clearly readable.

  6. In the middle of that box, choose bold for the style, then click OK at the bottom of that window.

  7. In the color field, choose another color for your title.

  8. Now type in the title of your report which will be your name then Autobiography.
    For example: Robert Lamothe Autobiography

  9. Hit return.

  10. Now change the size of your text to size 14, arial and change the color back to black.

  11. SAVE your file in your grade directory, (folder), for example, if you are in grade nine, save it in your grade9 folder. Please remember that there should be no space in your file name with all lower case letters.

  12. Begin typing your autobiography. Below are some guidelines and ideas for what to include.

Ideas for Your Autobiography

  • Begin writing about yourself when you were a young child as early as you can remember.
  • You can interview your parents and siblings who can help you fill in the details.
  • Include many interesting things about you as a person.
  • Bring in pictures of you that you might have that show your family and things you might have been involved with such as sports, dance lesson or dance club, theatre, etc. The pictures might also spark memories and details of the your experiences in life.
  • If you are currently involved with something, take pictures of that activity.
  • Other ideas that you come up with for what to include.
