Gathering Information and Writing In Your
Own Words:
Important Scientist
This assignment is to do research on the internet about a scientist
who has made an important contribution to our understanding of the world
through the eyes of a scientist. One purpose of this assignment is to
learn how to write the information that you gather
in your own words.
- Open up Microsoft Word and create a new document. Save the document
in your directory and give it a name with no spaces or capitol letters.
Call it something like internet_research_civil_rights.doc.
- At the top of the word doc put in a title in larger letter and centered.
The title should be something link Internet Research Techniques.
- Insert a table that has two columns and two rows. At the top of the
left column put in a column heading that says Info From Internet
and at the top of the right hand column put in the heading My Words.

- Go to the Home page of our class web site. Click on the link that
says Library and Search Links.
- Click on the link that says Electric Library. Your username and password
for Electric Library are listed on that page.
- When you get to the Electric Library page pick
a topic about an important scientist to search for and do
a search. When you find some information that you are interested in,
highlight it and copy it to the clipboard.
- Switch to your MS Word doc and paste the information into the column
that says Info From Internet.
- Read the information carefully.
- In the right hand column write down
what you learned from reading the information in the left hand column.
Be sure to write it in your words and to include important facts.
