Activity 4 - Scanning Directions

  1. Put Picture in Scanner

  2. Open Adobe Photoshop. To open the application go to Start -> Programs -> Adobe -> Photoshop 6.0 - > and click on Adobe Photoshop 6.0.

  3. Go to File, Import, then click on HP Scanjet.

  4. A scanning preview box will pop up after the picture is scanned. You should hear the scanner doing the scan. Crop the Picture if you like by clicking on and dragging the crop boxes. Click on the edges and pull in the sides, top, or bottom edges. (see picture below).

  5. Click on Accept (or it might say Finish the Scan) which is thegreen icon in the lower right corner of the screen.

  6. The image will then pop up in Adobe Photoshop.

  7. Go to Image -> then Image Size and Resize the image to between 300 and 600 pixels wide approximately. If you are going to use the image in a story in Power Point, I suggest 600 pixels wide. The length will automatically change and keep it's aspect ratio if Constrain Proportions is checked. Change the Resample Image choice to be Bilinear if you are shrinking the image.

  8. Save the your image in your images directory which is under your named directory, i.e. rlamothe on your H drive.

Save the file as a .jpg file. To save a file, click on File, Save As, then click on the little arrow in the middle to show your file type choices. Make sure the File Type says .jpg. Then click Save.

Click OK when the next window pops up .
