Mr. Lamothe's Special Math and Science Assignment
Voltage Use with Electronic Equipment

Description of Problem

We are going to be using electronic equipment run off of batter power. One measure of battery power potential energy is VOLTAGE running what is called DC, Direct Current electricty. Many electronic devices are engineered to run on plus or minus 20% of 12 VOLTS or whatever voltage they are rated for.

1. In the first case we are going to be running an amplifier for a microphone off of a 12 volt battery.

2. In the second case we are going to be running a wireless microphone that uses 1.25 volt AA batteries.

QUESTION 1

Our task is to determine what voltage is minus 20% of 12 volts and what voltage is plus 12 volts.

Question 1 Answer for MINUS 20% 12 volts:

Question 3
Additional Challenge

Question 3

Your challenge is to be able to determine the answer using only ONE mathematical step. For example, if you use subtraction or multiplication to determine your answer, you MAY NOT use another mathematical process to determine you answer. In other words, you cannot add, multiply, or substract more than once.

Write your mathematical formula Below.
