Gathering Information and Writing In Your Own Words

The first assignment in this project is to find some information about a topic relating to the environment, polution, the green movement, etc. and WRITE IT IN YOUR OWN WORDS.

  1. Open up Microsoft Word and create a new document. Save the document in your directory and give it a name with no spaces or capitol letters. Call it something like internet_research.doc.

  2. At the top of the word doc put in a title in larger letter and centered. The title should be something link Internet Research Techniques.

  3. Insert a table that has two columns and seven rows. The top row is for the headings - see sample. Each row is for a different source and you need at least SIX written sources and TWO documentary films as sources of information. At the top of the left column put in a column heading that says Info From Internet and at the top of the right hand column put in the heading My Words.   4. Go to the web page Environmental Links. That page has links to environmental web sites and lists of links to environmental web sites.

  5. When you get to a website that has information that you think you can use for your report, find some information that you are interested in and READ IT CAREFULLY. Highlight one or two paragraphs of important information that you have read and copy it to the clipboard.

  6. Switch to your Internet Research Techniques Word doc and paste the information into the left hand column that says Info From Internet.

  7. In the right hand column write down what you learned from reading the information in the left hand column. Be sure to write it in your words and to include important facts.
